Make A Funk Noise Here

Like a hidden treseaure for years that emerges on the seashoret, this is how first Javier Gimeno Bayón’s (aka Meno) work appears. “Make a Funk Noise Here” is his first LP, but this barcelonian guy is one of the most advanced and challenging musicians/producers in Spain, since some years.

He’s a founder member of Discordian Record netlabel, composer of soundtracks (he has worked with Iciar Bollaín, Kiko Maíllo, Ludovico Eunaidi, and he participated in the soundtrack of the short film “Timecode”, winner of the Palme D’or at 2016 Cannes Festival). He also collaborated with industry starlettes, such as Pharrell Williams and the Oscar nominee, Javier Navarrete. If we begin to name everything that this talented boy has done over the years, we would never end. But we are here to talk about his glorious and cheerful debut, under the name of Meno. “Make a Funk Noise Here” get one’s teeth into. Its fantastic and does not give hangover. Top material. Every minute of this album transmites a lot of energy.

In these time, when everything is urban, trap and r&b, Meno pays attention to authenticity (nothing is imposted here) and he reminds us why many of us are still passionate about music full of flow, groove and funk feelings. Old school spirit, adapted to the new times, looking back, but drawing his own path. Using samples, but playing a lot of instruments.

Sounding respectful of what has already been done, but with a personal, overwhelming and non-transferable personality. Drinking from several sources (funny funk, the coolest rap and the most nasty r&b), “Make a Funk Noise Here”, make up a puzzle, which piece by piece and beat by beat, fits like a strap-on on your nice booty. It’s a great luck to have found this treasure, that was parked so long. Let’s dance and celebrate.
